The island of Ischia is one of the most sought after holiday destinations in the Mediterranean, since it combines the mild climate all year round, a natural, historical, artistic and cultural heritage so rich as to astonish the visitor.. The island is divided into six municipalities, which each have a different characteristic. The capital t is divided into Ischia Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte.
A place to visit is the Aragonese Castle at Ischia Ponte, an ancient castle that rises from the sea. The most ancient towns of the island, or those that have been inhabited first are Lacco Ameno, who in the eighth century BC was colonized by the Greeks and Forio. At Lacco Ameno a visit to the Archaeological Museum which houses the famous Pithecusae Cup of Nestor, a precious kotyle greek.
Another place of interest in the church of Soccorso in Forio, a white structure built on an outcrop in the sea, and the sixteenth-century towers. Casamicciola holds the record of first resort spa on the island also the ancient thermal baths and the Geophysical Observatory of the sentinel on the hill.
Barano is known for its beautiful rural districts, for the beach at Maronti and the miraculous hot spring Nitrodi. While Serrara Fontana Boasting extraordinary nature trails leading to Mount Epomeo, is famous for the village of Sant'Angelo, vacation spot for international celebrities.
